SIP interconnectMobile service providers are leveraging IP and SIP to reduce costs in their network. One such application is the use of IP for interconnecting to retail and wholesale service providers for a variety of revenue-generating service offerings and cost-saving applications, including off-net origination and termination, peering and wholesale service access. While SIP interconnects are integral parts of IMS and VoLTE networks, they can also be used for cost savings for today’s circuit-switched mobile voice services. SIP interconnects provide: - Capital and operational cost savings
- Extended service reach
- Improved call quality
- New IP communication services
- Transcoder Free Operation (TrFO)
- New interconnect business models (peering and federation)
Acme Packet offers SIP a interconnect solution that features the Net-Net session border controller (SBC) to mediate the differences in various IP networks as well as provide security, quality and cost control at the ingress and egress of those networks. Net-Net SBCs at the interconnect border provide the Interconnect Border Control Function (I-BCF), Interworking Function (IWF) and Transition Gateway (TrGW) functions in IMS networks to manage signaling and media.
With unique SIP to SIP-I/T interworking, the same SBC can be used to manage voice traffic from MSC servers for circuit-switched mobile voice services as well as new SIP services like RCS or VoLTE. The SIP interconnect solution can be complemented by Acme Packet session routing proxies (SRPs) for core session routing.
The Acme Packet EdgeAcme Packet SBCs provide the requisite features to allow mobile service
providers to profit from the benefits of IP interconnects. The Acme
Packet SIP interconnect solution provides the following advantages to
mobile service providers: - Complete interconnect and routing solution for lower total cost of ownership
- Net-SAFE security framework to assure network availability
- Comprehensive interoperability functionality for 2G/3G voice, VoLTE and RCS interconnect
- Flexible and dynamic routing to reduce costs and ensure quality of service
