Delivering voice and packet data services to standard handsets, femtocell access points connect to a fixed broadband access connection to the Internet or IP network. Mobile service providers can use either the existing mobile switching center (MSC) infrastructure or new SIP/IMS core networks for voice services.
Acme Packet’s femtocell small cell access solution features the Net-Net Security Gateway (SG) deployed at the access border of the Internet and the legacy mobile core or the IMS/SIP service network. It is responsible for terminating and controlling IPsec tunnels used to transport voice and data services to the femtocell or small cell access point.

For SIP-based femtocells, the solution also features a Net-Net session border controller (SBC), which can be deployed as an integrated product on a single hardware platform or as two separate products.
