Acme Packet Connected Universe expands with three new Constellation members
O1 Communications, Stealth Communications and XConnect join to accelerate IP interconnects and VoIP peering
LOS ANGELES, CA, VOICE PEERING FORUM WINTER, DECEMBER 11, 2006—Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced the expansion of its Acme Packet Connected Universe™ program with the addition of three Constellation members. Acme Packet Connected Universe is a program designed to accelerate the implementation of IP interconnects between service providers for voice over IP (VoIP) and other end-to-end IP interactive communication services. Leading U.S. and European service provider customers or partners of Acme Packet, O1 Communications, Stealth Communications and XConnect, have joined the program.
Acme Packet Connected Universe, which was launched last month, helps Acme Packet-enabled service providers quickly find potential IP interconnect and peering arrangements and build business relationships with other Acme Packet-experienced service providers. Constellation members are Acme Packet-enabled service providers that offer IP interconnect-based services to other service providers. Star members are Acme Packet customers that are seeking services from Constellation members or VoIP peering arrangements with other Star members. A searchable web site directory of member services allows Constellation members to promote services and allows Star members to easily find business and peering partners.
“As an Acme Packet customer, TELUS looks to the Acme Packet Connected Universe to find peering partners for VoIP traffic exchange and extend our service reach,” said Janique Pilon, Senior Carrier Relations Manager with TELUS, an existing Star member of Acme Packet Connected Universe. “Acme Packet’s Net-Net SBCs help solve the technical challenges around IP interconnects and its new program helps mitigate some of the business hurdles.”
“With Acme Packet Connected Universe, Cohere now has access to a central directory of Tier 1 carriers to interconnect with for both local market access and enhanced hosting services,” said James Dechiaro, Chief Operating Officer of Cohere Communications, a current Star member. “The Acme Packet program empowers ASPs, like Cohere, to leverage these next-generation networks and expand our global presence cost efficiently and on an as-needed basis. This program virtually eliminated any interoperability concerns and need for additional capital expenditures for Cohere’s expansion efforts. Acme Packet is truly paving the way to providing global borderless network solutions.”
The new Constellation members offer a wide range of wholesale transit, directory and routing services around the world. These members use or have proven interoperability with Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs to offer services to other service providers:
O1 Communications is a facilities-based California CLEC that provides wholesale VoIP peering solutions to service providers looking to originate and terminate voice traffic in California.
Stealth Communications' Voice Peering Fabric (VPF) is the voice marketplace for enterprises, government agencies and carriers worldwide to buy, sell and trunk telephony related services with over a 100 billion minute run-rate in 2006. The VPF ENUM Registry houses over 18 million unique phone numbers allowing for free termination among VPF members.
XConnect is the industry leader in trusted VoIP Federation/Peering services including the innovative settlement-free XConnect Alliance as well as private federations with over 400 service providers in 35 countries. Features include secure (ENUM) registry, multi-protocol signaling management and advanced security including patent-pending SPIT protection.
“Our program has expanded with premier customers and service provider partners to help accelerate IP interconnects and VoIP peering,” commented Mario Oliveira, Acme Packet’s vice president, business development. “Acme Packet Connected Universe brings our customers and partners together to bridge VoIP islands.”
